“This is hard to talk about, but I feel like I have to. Because I believe my story can help you avoid this same tragedy.”

WARNING: My story contains some sensitive details regarding a violent attack I experienced. I’m sharing it because I believe it could help others avoid tragedy. By the end of this article, you will know EXACTLY how to respond if you’re in the same situation…

When everyone told me “violent crime is on the rise”, I didn’t buy it… I thought it was just a bunch of fuss on television designed to keep me watching.

As a 50-year-old woman living in a cozy suburban town, I truly believed I was safe from all the danger and violence that is apparently flooding our cities across the country.

But then, on a Sunday evening just after dinner, in a busy area not far from my home, two men followed me to my car and attacked me. All they wanted was my money, but they left me in stitches anyway.

I had just finished brunch with friends. The scumbags followed me to my car in a parking lot just off the street. There were hundreds of people right around the corner, so I still felt safe…

But they kept coming closer…

And before I knew it, they cornered me against my car. It was such an awful, terrifying moment to realize that “this is real”these men are about to hurt me, and I have no idea what to do. It was the most helpless and scared I’ve ever felt in my life.

I remember asking, “Can I help you?” Looking back, I should have screamed — but I was panicked and trembling. And my voice isn’t very strong these days, so I’m not sure anyone would have heard me anyway.

I don’t remember what happened next, or maybe I don’t want to. I just know they hit me with a hard object and left me bleeding on the ground.

Luckily, someone found me and rushed me to the hospital. I had 7 stitches under my right eye and bruises all over my body.

After that, I refused to leave my home without my husband. The trauma kept me from visiting friends, participating in social events, seeing my grandchildren… I couldn’t even take a walk through my own neighborhood.

Then The Police Called — And Helped Me Get My Life Back

This constant fear and paranoia lasted for about a month. Then the police called to say they found the men who attacked me — a couple of gang members looking for an “easy score” in the suburbs. Apparently, it’s a trend. They went to jail, of course… but they’ll be released even before I publish this post.

There is one positive that came out of all this, though. When I spoke to the police officer, I told him how frightened I was, and asked what I could have possibly done to avoid this.

I was tired of being confined to my home, giving frightened looks at every man on the street, and generally feeling helpless even when I wasn’t in danger. I knew I couldn’t undo what had happened to me, but I could at least prepare myself for next time.

Surprisingly, the officer didn’t recommend a Taser, pepper spray, or carrying a gun. He said that people often hesitate to use weapons when the moment strikes — and in many cases, they can be taken and used against you by the perpetrator.

Instead, he recommended a new type of personal safety device called a “personal alarm”.

These new devices don’t rely on “more violence” to keep you safe. Instead, they work by distracting attackers and drawing attention from bystanders.

This new personal alarm is called Hootie, and I can say with confidence that it’s the one thing that’s given me my life back. Having it in my purse gives me priceless peace of mind — I know I’m prepared should the worst happen.

If you also feel vulnerable to a random attack, I urge you to keep reading — Hootie could keep you safe at a critical moment.

What Is Hootie?

Hootie is a new pocket-sized safety device that essentially lets you bring a personal alarm system everywhere you go.

Hootie has a pin that you pull to activate the built-in strobe light and 130-decibel alarm — which is as loud as a jet engine. It’s so loud you can even hear it through walls!

This combination of flashing lights and loud sounds works in two ways:

  1. It startles and scares off any would-be attackers, giving you time to escape.
  2. It alerts bystanders, either encouraging someone to help you or causing the attackers to flee due to being noticed by other people.

Either of these can work, but the second one is surprisingly effective.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, bystanders are present at two thirds (66%) of violent crimes on average, and their presence is most common during physical assault crimes.1

Even more importantly, these bystanders are likely to take action and help you. According to a recent study, “intervention levels are very high” from bystanders, and when it comes to violent crime, “bystander intervention is actually the norm.”2

As I’ve since learned, having someone simply walk over can be enough to stop criminals in their tracks… let alone if they start filming.

That means that in my situation, I could have activated Hootie when the men followed me to my car. This may have sent them running by itself… and it also would have drawn attention from people on the street nearby.

Best of all, Hootie is completely safe to use — so you can activate it without worry, even at the slightest hesitation or concern. At the very worst you’ve just frightened someone with honest intentions… while the same can’t be said for weapons.

How Do You Use Hootie?

Using Hootie is easy — you don’t need any training or practice.

If you EVER feel uncomfortable while alone, for any reason, simply do this:

  1. Pull the pin.
Activate Hootie by tugging on the pin. It’s easy to pull on purpose, but snug enough to avoid going off by accident.
  2. Siren and strobe activate immediately.
Hootie screams like an at-home fire alarm at 130db and can be heard 1,000 feet away.
  3. Insert pin to turn off.
To silence Hootie, and turn off the strobe just insert the pin. Now you can re-clip it to your purse, keychain, or backpack.

Personally, I love how Hootie is also designed for convenience and ease of use. It has a strong carabiner that easily attaches to your keychain, bag, pocket, or water bottle — so it’s always at hand.

Unlike weapons, stun guns, or pepper spray, Hootie does not cause any harm to the attacker or the victim. There’s no risk of an accident, and it’s safe to keep around children.

Hootie is also TSA-approved, so you really can take it anywhere you go.

Simply put, Hootie gives me reliable protection without the extra danger and violence that comes with carrying weapons. I believe it’s the ideal modern solution for vulnerable people to safely and reliably protect themselves.

Hootie Gave Me My Life Back. If You Don’t Have A Personal Protection Device Yet, I Highly Recommend It!

While it’s impossible to guarantee total safety these days, having my Hootie clipped to my purse makes me feel much, much safer. It’s the one thing that finally helped me feel comfortable enough to leave my house alone again.

And I believe that if I had a Hootie with me when I was attacked, things would have turned out differently. That’s why I’m writing this article — if even one person avoids tragedy because of my story, it will be a success.

These days, I never leave home without my Hootie — nor do I let my daughter go out without hers. I even gave a few as gifts to my friends. I hope they don’t have to use it, but it makes me feel so much better knowing they have a lifeline if needed.

Whether you’re a young woman, an elderly man, or simply don’t want to be messed with, I strongly recommend carrying Hootie when alone.

I still don’t have the same carefree “It’ll never happen to me” attitude I used to have (maybe that’s a good thing), but Hootie has given me the confidence I needed to live my life “like normal” again. And that’s priceless.
